“I grew up and attended college in Ohio, but after studying abroad in Italy, there was no doubt in my mind that a piece of me belonged here. I moved to Italy after graduation, and as fate would have it, I ended up meeting the man who is now my husband. I have been living and working in Italy ever since, and after over 5 years, I can truly relate to the experiences that our student interns have here in Sorrento. “I’ve personally gone through the challenge of overcoming a language barrier and the cultural shock of working in an environment with many differences to U.S. work culture, and I can confidently say, I’ve enjoyed many satisfactions of having my perseverance pay off. From my own unique experience, I have learned so much about the patience and gumption one develops in this sort of situation, and it’s these personal and professional lessons that I aim to transmit to my student interns each term. By following their individual journeys, I am constantly learning from the students as well. Overall, there is tremendously rewarding potential for both the students and myself being able to share our abroad experiences.”
