Convegno "Women of the Mediterranean" presso il Sant'Anna Institute

Il 12-13 giugno 2015 il Sant'Anna Institute ha organizzato il convegno dal titolo "Women of the Mediterranean", in collaborazione con il prof. Giovanni Spani del College of Holy Cross (USA).

Il Convegno si è focalizzato sull'analisi del ruolo e della condizione delle donne nell'area Mediterranea, considerata nella sua globalità. Tra i diversi aspetti caratterizzanti la dimensione femminile, così come è vissuta e percepita nei Paesi Mediterranei, il Convegno ha cercato di esplorare i modelli culturali che determinano effetti sui contesti socio-economici di quest'area geografica e tentare di individuare, in tali sistemi, la presenza delle donne, in relazione alla costruzione della propria identità e al ruolo che esse generalmente ricoprono.

Il Convegno - che ha visto la partecipazione di numerosi docenti e studiosi attivi nell'ambito degli studi mediterranei, provenienti da alcune delle più prestigiose Università e istituzioni operanti in Europa, Africa, Medio Oriente, Stati Uniti, giunti appositamente a Sorrento - conferma il duplice e pluriennale impegno del Sant'Anna Institute nelle sua attività di ricerca internazionale, nonché il suo ruolo di collegamento tra istituzioni universitarie italiane ed estere.

"Women of the Mediterranean" Conference at Sant'Anna Institute

 
On 12-13 June, Sant'Anna Institute in Sorrento has hosted the first international conference entitled "Women of the Mediterranean", organized by the Institute in collaboration with prof. Giovanni Spani from the College of the Holy Cross (USA).

The Conference has focused on the analysis of the role and conditions of women in the Mediterranean area, considered globally. Among the several connotative aspects of the feminine dimension as it is lived and perceived in the countries on the shores of the Mediterranean, the Conference intended to explore the cultural models that have an effect on the socio-economic contexts of this geographic area and to attempt to awaken the presence of women within these contexts both in terms of identity construction and role they usually play.

Many faculty and scholars - active in the field of Mediterranean Studies - from some of the most prestigious Universities and institutions in Italy, Mediterranean area and North America, have reached Sorrento (in many cases for the first time) to join the Conference. This event confirms Sant'Anna Institute's long-time commitment in the international research activity and in promoting the Sorrento area, as well as its role as a link between Italian and foreign Universities.
